Surgery for Katniss

Donation protected
Katniss was born January 2014, at a month old her kennel building burned down and she was the only pup of 7 to survive. Covered over 70% in burns, it was questionable if she would survive, let alone have a normal life. Thanks to a very dedicated rescue clinic she 95% healed and never gave up her zest for life or living. September of that year I adopted her, I could have chosen hundreds of pups, normal, undamaged pups, but I adopted her and the 5% physically that didn't heal because it was so badly burnt it wouldn't grow skin... Katniss has enlightened the lives of everyone she encountered over the past 6 years, always showing that zest and love of life and never knowing she was "damaged". He soul was never damaged. Jump ahead to late 2019 and suddenly that 5% spot has exploded, doubling in size, becoming infected and growing proud flesh that remains raw and very sensitive to the touch. Her regular vet treated her like it was a minor "boo-boo" and when that didn't work they turned her away. Another vet said reconstructive surgery could fix it (something no vet in 5.5 years had ever mentioned) and she got a $3,500 quote for me from a tissue surgeon. The surgeon saw her and that quote grew to $4,400; it would make things tight but manageable with the help from the just received $1,200 stimulus check. But wait... the surgeon changed her game plan and just upped the one surgery to 2 and the price went up to $6,600-7,000. How do you look at your dear friend who is always there for you and has such a spark in her eyes and tell her "momma can't afford that..."? I'm a single mom on a single income, I take in the animals no one else wants, her 3 1/2 year old brother Wilfred in the video, who will be lost without his snuggle mate. I am devastated every night when I go home and look at her. I can cover 1/2 the cost but not all of it, and I am hoping it won't go over $7,000. I am diligently seeking other surgeons to see if they can help her at a lower cost. If Katniss were an old dog, I wouldn't ask for help, I would consider her life to be well-lived and let her go on. But she is not old and the difference she makes in the lives of those who meet her is worth every penny. Scarred children who don't want the world to see them because they don't like how they look or think no one will want to see them find themselves in Katniss and for the time they visit with her they feel "perfect" and whole. I promise to only use the funds to help Katniss with her surgery, I also promise to keep this soul-baby healthy and happy for the many years she has left to live and I promise to tell her story and continue helping people, especially children, to realize the body is only a shell, what matters is the life we have inside and that no matter how "damaged" someone is on the outside, it's the inside where love grows. I lost my 8-year-old cat last year to an enlarged heart; this past January I had to put down my 14-year-old horse to a stroke; they were young, just like Katniss, please help me not have to put another soulmate down before she gets to experience growing old. https://youtu.be/EmGKRIDDcBs
