I Need Your Help

I have split this long message into categories that you can follow by reading the bold.

Introduction:

So as many of you now know, I have a form of aggressive cancer called sarcoma growing on my chest for the past 6 months and it is finally going to be removed August 16th. For the past 4-6 weeks it has been growing at a rate of 1 cm per week.  My friends and family have encouraged me to make this fund as a way to help finances that will trouble me in the next few months since I will not be able to work while I rehabilitate. Below I’ll explain in detail of what this surgery and the next few months will look like. Before that, I just want to explain that I have never felt so blessed and supported in my life than in these past months. I have felt lonely in Loma Linda before this mess while living my life day by day but this cancer has brought me so much love and joy from my friends and family and I can only thank God that He has sent EVERY one of you to contact me and ask me how I’m doing and praying for so much! Just about every day I get a small message that fills my heart with joy and that alone is the reason why I’ve been so happy and blessed throughout this “dark journey” as some would call it.

Details of sarcoma size and implications:

For those curious at the size of this mass, 2-3 weeks ago it was around 6 cm long by 10 cm wide by 3 cm tall and has been growing 1 cm in diameter per week so you can imagine how much larger it is now. The cardiothoracic surgeon told me that he will have to take out a large portion of my pectoralis muscle (main chest muscle) due to the size and aggressiveness of the tumor. I will have to spend a minimum of 4-5 days in the hospital waiting for my large wound to heal so plastic surgery can come in and perform a skin/muscle graft (probably transfer skin from my back) and then stay another few days to keep watch for infection and proper healing. With the surgery being very extensive, I will need at least 2-3 months of rehabilitation and will be unable to work.

Financial details:

For now, my mother and other family members will be coming for my surgery on August 16th but I’ve asked my mom to leave on Sunday after my surgery so she can come back later on when I’m discharged home so she can help me with wound care, grooming, cooking, and everyday things that we all take for granted. Of course, the reason for this leave and coming back is so that she doesn’t take work off to sit at the hospital watching nurses help me but instead use the time off to take care of me at home when I’m at the worst. My biggest worry is her finances being affected by 2 weeks off from work. On top of that, I have been paying my student loans of $1200 a month plus living expenses so the worry continues knowing I won’t be able to work to pay off anything while I’m still recovering from my surgery.

Conclusion:

I honestly don’t know what the costs will be for me throughout the next few months and the total I have put up is just a number I had to put up for the website and by no means expect that much help. I am simply blessed by those who have encouraged me to not feel shy about asking and accept whatever help comes along the way because whatever the amount, it is a blessing given to me by you through God’s grace.
