Tropical Storm Lidia Relief Fund

Donation protected

Tropical Storm Lidia pounded the Baja California peninsula. The damage in the area of Los Cabos (including San Lucas and San Jose) was particularly bad. While there was rapid recovery in the tourist areas, the surrounding areas with some of the poorest were the hardest hit. People that live daily life in makeshift settlements made of plywood walls and dirt floors were absolutely devastated by raging flood waters an
d mudslides. Entire families where found buried alive inside their vans and cars. Parents saw their children ripped from their arms by the current as they desperately tried to get to safety. Families with children not having access to clean drinking water for days. This is the situation. There are already hundreds dead. Lack of media coverage due to other recent disasters in the US (hurricanes and wildfires) have commandeered much attention, unfortunately at the expense of the destitute populations of our closest North American neighbors here in Mexico. As an American and as a citizen of the world I implore you to consider even a modest donation to assist.

To answer some of the basic questions - I am an American that currently resides in Cabo San Lucas. Within our personal network of friends and families here, I am directly linked to the communities that have been affected. I have spent the past few days since the storm personally investing time and money in helping the unfortunate victims here which was spawned initially by a desperate call for help from a family that reached out to us when they hadn't been able to find clean drinking water for their young children in over 48 hours.

We have been purchasing bulk items and delivering them via our network of volunteers and friends here with direct ties to the community. I am personally administering this and coordinating the purchasing and delivery of these items. This is a personal initiative and I am literally just taking these funds in addition with my own personal money to buy and transport these items to the needy families and communities.

I will be using funds to purchase drinking water, calorie-dense food, first aid supplies and antiseptics,
basic clothing (most people were left with only the clothes on their backs) and tarps to help as the people rebuild and reunite with their family and community members.
