Tropical North Steiner School Initiative
Tropical North Steiner School is a new initiative that was hoping to open its doors in 2021. As we did not have enough funds to do the required renovations for our site, we will now be opening in 2023.
Positioned in the beautiful Douglas Shire, where the Rainforest meets the Sea, funds are needed urgently to assist with the final touches to make our site a school including, classroom fixtures and playground equipment. This community initiative has been supported by volunteers for the past 3 years and we are so excited that we are now ready to provide this holistic education to our Douglas Shire community (pending site readiness).
Steiner education fosters the human spirit in children and young adults, allowing them to flourish in a holistic learning environment that is oriented towards moral growth, social consciousness and citizenship. We seek to nurture each child and connect them to the natural environment, one another, and the world around them. Our school will be grounded in working artistically, practically and intellectually. As well as being integrated, the curriculum is broadly based, interdisciplinary and culturally rich. We cherish the right of children to childhood – and this is reflected in the staging of the Australian Steiner Curriculum which is recognised by ACARA.
In prep, we will nurture each child’s development by facilitating creative, self-directed play, as we believe that the initiative, imagination and flexibility awakened underpin later academic learning and are the basis for innovative thought in adult life. In classes 1 - 6, our lessons are active, the children learn through movement, stories, music, art, festivals and doing. We build creativity and foster each child’s imagination. The children form close bonds with each other and with their teachers.
The values underpinning our education are gratitude, responsibility, collaboration, community, inclusivity, diversity and initiative.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause. No amount is too small or too big and our children, parents and community are forever grateful.
