Troop 17 NASA Student Launch Team

Donation protected
Student Launch Team, Troop 17 (SLT17) is one of only 15 middle and high school teams in the US accepted into  NASA’s Student Launch Initiative, a premier college-level STEM challenge conducted by NASA’s Marshall Spaceflight Center. The team works alongside NASA engineers to develop and fly a high-powered rocket that flies to an altitude of one mile while carrying a science payload that studies the transfer of heat to electricity using the byproduct from the rocket engine as it burns.  Through Student Launch, NASA is helping to develop the next generation of rocket scientists!

SLT17 members are also conducting an education program reaching at least 200 youth in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area.  The focus is STEM for economically disadvantaged students in the community, as well as the local Scouting units.

The team must raise $20,000 to fund materials to build two rockets, motors, our education program, and travel to Huntsville, AL for Flight Week in early April 2019, when we test out rocket against 59 other teams from all across the US.
