Tristan's fight with MSSA

Last week my nephew, Tristan Kee, went to the emergency room with a bad case of the stomach bug, only to soon find out that he has a MSSA infection in his bloodstream. Tristan has been on antibiotics in the hospital for several days, but the infection has continued to spread.

Tristan was born with a hole in his heart, so the doctors are soon going to perform a procedure that allows them look closer at his heart to ensure that the infection has not entered his heart. On 12/23, the doctors concluded that the infection formed in Tristan's heart and is circulating through his body from his heart. 

From there, the doctors will decide if heart surgery is the right treatment for Tristan in the moment or in the near future. 

The goal is to get Tristan's blood test to show up negative for MSSA. Once that happens, he will be in the hospital for a remaining 7-10 days to be monitored by his doctors. Once Tristan returns home, he will be on antibiotics through an IV for about 6 weeks.

Tristan has been handling his time and treatments in the hospital like a champ. The main thing that has upset him throughout this entire process has been knowing that he will be in the hospital during Christmas. 

Once Tristan returns home, his family will be faced with the burden of his medical bills for an emergency room treatment, at least 10 days in the hospital, special procedures, follow up appointments, follow up prescriptions and a potential heart surgery.
