For this charity challenge, I will attempt to summit Mount Kilimanjaro on a 10-day expedition in June 2019
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in the continent of Africa, and the tallest free standing mountain in the world. The summit stands at 5,895 metres or 19,300 feet.
For my efforts, I am hoping to raise as much money as I can for two excellent children's causes;
(1) Classrooms in the Clouds, Nepalhttps://www.classroomsintheclouds.org/
(2) St. Joseph's Charity School, Vietnamhttps://www.facebook.com/stjosephscharityschool/
'Classrooms in the Clouds' improves education for Nepalese children living in remote mountainous regions. It is run by volunteers, and the money raised goes towards building schools, sponsoring teachers, and giving the children much needed facilities - classrooms, toilets, drinking water, books and much more.
'St. Joseph's Charity School' provides free education for children from very poor backgrounds in Vietnam, who otherwise would not be able to go to school. The money raised goes towards giving the children uniforms, books, stationary, snacks at school and sponsoring teachers to work with the children.
All the money raised will be split evenly and given directly to the charities.
For my planning and preparation, I will be taking a hiking trip to the Himalayas in April to prepare for the altitude, and I will be exercising and training more frequently, including hikes around Vietnam and gym/pool work. This is my third hiking challenge for charity, and definitely the most difficult one yet.
Thank you so much in advance to everyone who is willing to donate, whatever the amount. It is all going to two very worthy places!
I will keep everyone updated with photos / videos.
