Travelling Responsibly by giving back.

In 2015 I worked with Sandy Bay Lighthouse Ministries to bring a week's worth of food, Christmas presents, and school supplies to the children and it was the most gratifying thing I have ever experienced.

I am visiting Sandy Bay Lighthouse Ministries once again in the new year to offer food, clothing, and school supplies to the home for at-risk children. They currently house 26 children and 6 adult caregivers. The children are either rescued from a dangerous situation, abandoned, or surrendered by parents unable to care for them. Once at the home they are cared for and educated by the Ministry until the age of 18.

The Ministry relies solely on donations to do this and Covid has caused them to suffer financially from the lack of tourist visitors.

I learned years ago to vacation responsibly by leaving the place I holiday in better than I found it. According to the world bank, Roatan has more than a 48% poverty rate before Covid now it is even worse.

I am also hoping to raise enough money to sponsor a family chosen by the Ministry, with the same support.

If you have a lot to give please be generous, if you have a little it is so welcomed. I intend to go shopping with them for all items locally to help the Roatan economy and experience the joy of giving.
