Travel, Medical and family expences

On Thursday November 2nd, around 5:40 pm, Andy was involved in a head on collision, both vehicles traveling around 55 miles per hour.

911 was called and an ambulance dispatched to the scene. While waiting for the ambulance an off duty police officer arrived on scene to find Andy unresponsive, he started CPR and was able to restart Andy's heart.

On arrival to the hospital Andy was rushed to the back and into emergency surgery. He had internal bleeding that needed to be stopped immidiately. He was cut open from his chest to his pelvic region and they have chosen to leave the area open with a wound vac.

He has an orbital fracture that should heal on its own.
Both lungs were collapsed and a chest tube inserted.
His spleen and liver were detached from the body and pretty much just "floating" around. The spleen was removed and liver reattached.
His kidneys have impact damage and are severely bruised.
His colon was ruptured and he had intestinal bleeding. The colon was fixed and parts of his intestines removed.
His neck has fractures at the C2, C5 and C7. Right now he just has a neck brace on. They are very concerned with C2 and will most likely put a halo on once he is stable enough.
His back has several transverse fractures that they will look more into once he's stable enough.
He has several broken ribs which will heal over time.
His pelvis has several fractures, some of which will heal on their own. Others will require surgery and a metal plate and screws on his sacrum.
He has a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula, and his ankle bones are shattered (all on right leg). They will put an exterior stabilizer on this when he is stable enough and will later go in with screws and rods.

His heart is pumping on its own, but needs to stabalize.
His brain and heart scans are normal at this time and show no swelling or injuries.
He has been intubated since he got here and is now on 60% O2, with the machine breathing for him.
He is being medically paralysed at this time and that will be the case for a while.
The doctors also said about 20 percent of injuries are typically missed at the beginning and we will probably find more as the days go by.
He does not respond to touch or sound, but when he is in enough pain he will move his extremities.

He is in the surgical trauma ICU. He is NOT receiving visitors at this time.
Please don't send any gifts, he is not allowed to have them in his room.

Please be mindful and respectful of the 5 children we have at home and give them their space.

I'd like to thank my friends and family for dropping everything to be there for me and especially my children so that I may stay at the hospital.

I have care lined up for our children for the first week and after that I will begin traveling several times a week back and forth from home to the hospital so that I may be here for him and be home for our children (about 55 miles one way). I will also be renting a room at the facilities guest house for my weekly visits, his surgeries, and any other time that I need to stay overnight.
We don't usually ask for help, but my family really needs it right now.
Anything donated will be used for travel expences and to take care of our kids.

Andy needs your prayers now more than ever.

Thank you!
