If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting the Myers family then you understand how amazing they are! They are the most kind, selfless, humble, and caring family I've ever met. They have never been ones to look for a hand out or ask for help of any kind. They go above and beyond to help those around them even when they are having their own hard times.
With that being said, I am creating this fundraiser because they need our help! My goal is to raise enough money to help with the cost of a used (new to them) handicapped van for their youngest son Nick. Their current van is approximately 14 years old and Nick has outgrown the size of the van as he is now 19 years old and the size of an adult. It is a standard van and does not have enough head clearance with his increased height and size of his wheelchair. This would be unsafe for him in the event of an accident. They are in the process of trying to finance a used handicapped van to meet his needs however the cost is very expensive. With a limited income and medication copay costs (along with your typical necessary expenses) the funding for this van would be a significant hardship. If we could raise at least $7,000 for a down payment, we could lower the amount they would owe each month. Their current van is no longer accommodating his needs and the only other way Nick can be transported is via ambulance. Below is a just a small summary of Nick's condition and why this is so important for him...
Nick was born with a rare genetic syndrome. He is non-ambulatory and non-verbal due to this condition. He also deals with seizures, an immune deficiency disorder, Dysautonomia (disorder of the autonomic nervous system), a heart condition, and extreme intestinal dysmotility. Nick has frequent medical appointments (with 12 specialists) and necessary monthly infusions. These infusions are detrimental to his life and wellbeing. He is so brave and the sweetest, most loveable, young man I know! He enjoys music of every kind and loves to listen to songs about the Lord. Nick loves to be outdoors and be with his friends at school. His smile could light up a room and seeing him happy will guarantee to melt your heart! He is loved by so many and holds a special place in everyone's heart that he has ever came in contact with.
This "new" van would not only help transport him to all his medical appointments but also to extra school activities (which he loves)and family functions.
