Transforming the Environment, transforming lives

My purpose project is titled Transforming the environment, Transforming lives. It is an environmental sustainability through education initiative which is aimed at empowering the women and youth of "Asikabew", a peasant farming community in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality in the Eastern Region of Ghana, by educating them on how to transform both natural and artificial waste materials in their community into reusable eco-friendly products.
The Transforming Environment, Transforming Lives project will then provide a platform to sell these eco-friendly products in order to generate funds which will be given back to the community to improve their living conditions.
This will involve creating a work shed where these empowered and trained women and youth can report to daily and make artifacts and products for sale.
Recycled items include but will not be limited to empty tins, rubber bags, old clothes, old plantain leaves, maize husks, etc.
Though a very small village of population of a little below 500, the chief and people of Asikabew are very industrious and have a willingness to learn new things and change their lives for the better. The village currently lacks a proper waste management system and have plastic and natural waste littered all around. On weekends when the men go to the farms, the youth idle and elderly women around unproductively which leaves the families in the community depending solely on resources generated from family which they complain is woefully inadequate.
There is therefore a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people in the community through this initiative. As the people of Asikabew are taught how to recycle and manage waste in their community, they will be preserving their environment and making it habitable for future generations.
Greenheart International is the organization that has groomed and empowered young people like myself to want to contribute meaningfully and positively to our countries and communities.
In view of this I entreat all who believe in the power of education, environmental sustainability and women and youth empowerment as much as I do to support in my quest to help transform the environment and lives of the hardworking people of Asikabew.
