Training to become a nutrition nut!

Hello, and thanks for being here.

Aaarrrggghhhh!!!  Can't believe i'm actually doing this - but I promised someone special that I would...so here goes.

I plan to qualify as a Nutritional Therapist.  And so, I've decided to do a 3 year diploma in Nutritional Therapy with the College of Natural Medicine here in Edinburgh, Scotland.  This decision has come about after an extremely challenging time in mine and Charlies lives and accepting that we'll be here in Scotland for a long while yet.  I'm not sure just how much detail I need to go into here without painting some sort of hard luck story, but also telling you enough so you can understand why i'm asking for help.  I'll try.

I came to Scotland on a 2 month holiday while pregnant in 2014, and for circumstances outside of my control and a relationship breakdown - 4 years later Charlie and I are still here.   Apart from some very generous souls supporting us financially with living expenses which enabled us to transition from what was our 'family home' to the life we're living now - I've had to finance this entire time myself.  My son was born in Scotland and is a British Citizen and for that is entitled to £20.70 per week, (which incidentally i'm having to fight for).  I choose to stay here to raise him, as I can't take him out of the country, but because i'm not a UK citizen i'm not entitled to any benefits. I pay thousands in visa costs to stay in the country, thousands in lawyers fees to try and get back to NZ for a holiday; and receive no money in Child Support payments from my sons father. Our monthly living costs are £1400.  Which leaves a fairly decent shortfall.

I was always going to find a way to prioritise my sons early years, and so have always been a stay at home mum.  Last year, with the support of some key players I've managed to start and build a business - its growing, but it takes time.  I've had to inject a substantial amount of money into the business to get it up and running.   I have other plans underway for ways to earn income, but again, it all takes time.

The decision to do this Nutrition course didn't come lightly.  But equally, I know deep down it is something I need to do.  If you know me, you would know that I have nothing short of a crazy fascination with nutrition and its role in the health and well being of folk.  I've been (and still do) dish out all manner of tips and tricks to folk on ways to improve a health challenge they are facing.   And being a mum provides me with no end of challenges, of which some I can help to overcome with nutrition!  Once I qualify i'll actually be able to give 'qualified advice' which I can even get paid for, hip hooray!

The course I am doing runs part time for 3 years.  The entire course costs £10,500 (GULP!).  The course starts mid October and by the last week of September I need to  pay £2800 for the first year, or more if I pay in instalments.  I'll also need to pay for text books and travel to and fro.   I should also mention, I don't even qualify for a loan as i'm not a British Citizen.

Between nursery and the time Charlie spends with his dad, its possible for me to take the time to do this diploma.

I wouldn't be where I am today without the overwhelming support and love we've had from friends and family.  And we couldn't have hoped to meet folk more wonderful than those that surround us here in Scotland.  Its through this support that I've managed to get my life and head into a space where I can actually think about the future - its exciting.  I'm so so so proud of myself for finding a very bright light down what has been quite a dark tunnel.  There's a light so bright that I must shine now so watch this space!

I know you're super busy so I want to thank you if you've found yourself here and read this far.  It means alot.

xx lots of love
