My name is John Maher, and for 16 years, I have brought Carmen's Road Safety message to the students at Warrnambool College. Today, I received a phone call from the school with the tragic news that one of its students, Joel Moon, had lost his life in a car accident.

I was also informed, that Joel's family has requested that instead of flowers, they would like all donations to be made to Carmen's Road Safety.  What an amazing family. I am humbled, and this makes me so proud of our daughter Carmen who we lost in a car accident 24 years ago, when she was 18. Her ongoing message at Warrnambool College has moved the Moon family to make this request.

My heart breaks for Joel's family and friends, his school, his teachers, and everyone who loved Joel. I believe in Carmen and I believe she will be with Joel now.

I thank the Moon family for their belief in the importance of Carmen's message. Over the past 24 years, I have delivered Carmen's Road Safety message to more than 400,000 students at approximately 70 schools per year. I thank everyone who may donate because it will assist me to continue my work in educating our precious young people on safe road use.

Thanks to Joel's family, they will now be an integral part of allowing me to continue to bring Carmen's story into the lives of students across Victoria. Your donations will support me in so many areas such as fuel and accommodation as I travel 60,000km annually.

There are so many underprivileged schools that I know haven't been able to afford my very modest fee to present. Thanks to Joel's family and your donations I will be able to deliver Carmen's Road Safety message to these underprivileged schools in Joel's memory.
