Early in the morning on January 22nd Wilberth was on his way to work driving his ponga flats boat to the Pesca Maya Lodge. He was by himself. When he didn't show up, the lodge sent out another boat to look for him - he was always punctual and never missed a day of work.
Tragically, they found his boat and his body. Wilberth, at age 36, had an unforeseen heart attack. He fell out of the boat and into the water where he was then run over by his own boat. So tragic and so very sad.
He was the sole earner for his family. After a difficult year of Covid with no work for many months, his death has left behind not only heartbreak and tragedy but also financial hardship for his family.
Fishing guides from small villages don't have much. They work very hard to earn a living and Wilberth was a joyful, warm, good man. There are no benefit to be collected and his wife was a stay-at-home mother. Mexico is a poor country to begin with. After a difficult year with no tourism people like Wilberth have really struggled. His death leaves his family in real need of help.
We are asking for donations that will go directly to Wilberth's widow, Ana Silvia Antonio so she can cover immediate living expenses and support their children Daniel and Merida, at least temporarily. In an effort to ease her financial hardships, we are asking you to donate today so we can reach our goal quickly and get the much needed financial relief she needs soon.
