Trafford Rowing Club is a small, not for profit, community rowing club based on the Bridgewater Canal in Sale, Greater Manchester, offering rowing opportunities to people aged 11-80.
Our juniors are particularly successful - last year our year 10 (J15) boys and girls were both ranked in the top 10 in the country, an amazing achievement for such a small club.
This March, at a national schools' competition, our current J15 girls finished 6th out of 69 in the country in their coxed quad (four rowers + cox)
They hope to achieve even greater success in two more national events before the summer, and are aiming to qualify for Henley Women's in the next two years.
To do this, they need a suitable boat!
From September, they move into the J16 (year 11) category when the rules state that they must change to a coxless boat. Unfortunately, Trafford Rowing Club does not have a suitable lightweight boat and does not have the funds to buy one.
To give this group of girls the best opportunity, we are looking to raise funds to buy a high quality second hand coxless quad boat, which will cost around £10,000 with blades (oars).
As sports grants are increasingly rare, the girls and the Club are organising fundraising activities, such as quiz nights, sponsored marathon rows, bag packing etc. The boat would be used not just by our current junior squad, but also future champions for at least the next 10 years.
Any donations would be gratefully received to help our girls, who we genuinely believe could be the best in the country in their age group.
