Tracy’s Battle - Stage 4 High Grade Ovarian Cancer

Donation protected
Tracy had been telling doctors of a heavy sensation in her stomach for a long time, constantly being brushed off and it put down to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

About 18 months ago, Tracy started having severe night sweats, again seeking medical advice. Doctors telling her she was in Perimenopause and it was all due to hormonal changes….

Tracy carried on for over a year with these symptoms.

After contracting Covid-19 for the second time in November 2023, Tracy was having a pain on her right hand side and was not able to roll on this side to sleep. (And as a right hand sleeper it was a killer!)

As many of you know, Tracy loves keeping fit. She was still going to the gym and attempting runs but was struggling to get air in and running out of breath prematurely.

A month after Covid, Tracy was now struggling to even hold a conversation without gasping for air. She went to her GP and he sent her for urgent blood tests to check for infection and/or blood clots. Within a couple of hours he rung her back saying she needed to go for an urgent scan… Infection markers were low but blood clot markers were elevated.

Bunbury couldn’t do anything for three weeks but Mandurah could do it that afternoon. Once they did the scan in Mandurah, she was told that she had a large, right sided, pleural effusion and was sent exigently to the Emergency Department.

Tracy was admitted and kept in Hospital for 8 days, after draining 3 litres of fluid off the right lung! This was sent for testing.

Doctors wanted to see her back in Mandurah at the beginning of January to provide the results and do a follow up chest x-ray to see if the fluid had reaccumulated.

When Tracy spoke to the consultant with the results, he said … it was cancer and it had come from the female reproductive tract.

Tracy was referred to a Perth based oncologist that also works in Bunbury. He is big with clinical trails and because of Tracy’s age (45) and being young to have this type of cancer - he would be an amazing choice.

She then went and had a PET scan and they took biopsies of her uterus and ovaries. This is when they discovered she had Stage 4 - High Grade Ovarian Cancer . It has also metastasised to her lungs. It is treatable but not curable.

Tracy is determined to prove them wrong.

Heartbreaking that things had to get to this point before finally being heard.

Tracy has had 2 rounds of Chemotherapy… with one more to go before debulking surgery in Perth then another 3 rounds of chemo. To then which a long term plan will established.

Doctors are also going to send Tracy for genetic testing to see if this is something that may be passed down to her children.

Any support would be so, greatly appreciated. Please keep Tracy and the Mulcahy family in your thoughts ❤️
