Tracy Quigg Flood Recovery

Donation protected
On March 3rd, 2018 Governor Baker declared a State of Emergency in Massachusetts after a Nor’easter hit, which brought rain, extreme flooding and hurricane-strength winds to the coast.  Tracy Quigg was evacuated from her home by the National Guard as her house on Sea Street in Quincy took on water and the Houghs Neck neighborhood was flooded. Tracy’s basement was flooded with 5 feet of water and her first floor was flooded with over 3 feet of water; and debris floated onto her property from the neighborhood.  (continued below)

Our friend and colleague, Tracy Quigg, of Boston, has taught over 3,500 inner city elementary school students to learn how to swim and be safe in the water. Unfortunately, this March with 3 major snow storms and more on the way hitting the Boston area’s coastal communities, water has not been a friend to Tracy.

The multiple storms and severe flooding has partially destroyed Tracy’s dream first home for which she has worked so hard and long to have her own place. For the past several months, she had been doing some of her own home repairs to save money on her home
For the past 7 years, Tracy has been the Wang YMCA’s lead swim instructor and program coordinator to teach the students of Chinatown’s Josiah Quincy Elementary School Swim Program, a program that provides non swimmers, and beginner levels of 2nd to 5th graders. To not fear water is a major gift to city kids.

Needless to say, she has not had many sleepful nights because of worrying about the future uncertainties that include FEMA negotiations, house contents, structural damages, increasing insurance repairs and coverage, and whether she will ever feel secure in her dreams. (continued below)

For those of us who may have had the blessings of safety, heat & power, and little damage to our own properties, might we be able to offer some support to this dynamic, wonderful, and generous young woman who faces the irony of teaching people to feel safe in the water, but could not hold back nor protect her home from the forces of water.
Hope that you can help make these horrible realities that Tracy presently faces today into a distant and fading memory one day. Please consider making a contribution to support Tracy.  She is truly a hardworking, altruistic person who should not lose her home and financial security due to this catastrophic event of nature.
