“Outdoor Action Track Chair for Dodge”:

Meet Dodge!
A 2017 head-on collision left Dodge, then 11, badly injured and hospitalized. He spent weeks in the hospital undergoing reconstructive surgeries -- including surgery to his abdomen and spine--followed by time at a rehabilitation facility.  Dodge is now 15-years-old and a freshman in high school.  He enjoys wheelchair basketball and the outdoors. He has a manual chair but his desire to explore would benefit from a track chair.

I got to know Dodge a few years ago when I was the elementary principal in the school district that he attends. In addition to playing wheelchair basketball, I learned that Dodge loves to be outdoors -- especially when he is fishing and hunting. This past year, I saw the challenges these activities present Dodge when he and his family came to fish and deer hunt at my family’s land, and he maneuvered his manual chair around our pond and through the woods. 

A track chair would help Dodge explore rougher terrain including wooded areas, bodies of water, and so many other places! The particular track chair I’ve researched has a sit to stand option which provides more opportunities for him to engage in different types of activities. Dodge and his family are excited about the possibilities and opportunities this track chair would provide. 

With our recent snowfalls in Wisconsin, I’ve thought about the challenges Dodge might encounter. Also, the limitations on activities the family would likely enjoy doing together. A track chair would help Dodge experience a variety of additional activities.
