Chicken, a Young Cat With FLUTD

Donation protected
Hello, I'm Alexandra Slugoski, the new mom of Chicken, a 3-year-old Manx cat suffering from FLUTD and needs lifesaving surgery. I hope to share his story with the world, all animal lovers included.

Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) describes various conditions affecting the bladder and urethra of cats. The most severe problem associated with urinary function is when a cat's urethra becomes partly or totally blocked, causing cats to pass little or no urine. This is extremely painful and fatal if not treated immediately. Urethral obstruction is most often caused either by urethral stones or by urethral plugs (the latter are made of a soft material containing minerals, cells, and mucus-like protein). Male cats are at greater risk for urethral obstruction than females because their urethra is longer and narrower. Chicken's case is different.

Chicken presented to the Tudor Glen Veterinary Hospital in St. Albert, AB this summer when his urethra blocked entirely and could no longer urinate. We performed an emergency procedure to unblock him, which is when we found that the blockage was due to strictures in his urethra (constriction/narrowing of the urethra) due to complications from a past surgery performed to shorten his urethra and help him urinate easier. This is a severe complication that needs surgical correction. A local veterinarian kindly volunteered to operate on him, giving him a second chance at life.

Just this fall, it was found that his urethra was starting to stricture closed again, meaning Chicken needs a final corrective operation. We did a urinary contrast study and found that a perineal urethrostomy could be performed to save his life. Sadly, the cost of surgery is too much for me to afford on my own and life circumstances have my hands tied, so I am turning to friends, family, and the kindness of others to help Chicken continue life’s incredible journey.

All funds raised go towards his surgery scheduled for December 1st, 2022 at Guardian Veterinary Centre in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

Thank you all for your kindness in supporting Chicken; many thanks and blessings from his family and friends. Like and follow his Facebook page, Chicken, a Young Cat with FLUTD, for more updates on him.
