My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting Candace Andreno and her two lovely daughters when they were visiting our parish last year. Her husband is Steve Andreno and they are members of St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church for nine years.
Steve was in a major automobile accident on June 10, 2017 and he is now almost paralyzed. After a motorcyclist (who was going 80 mph) rear-ended him, his car lost control and hit two other cars and he wound up on the side of the freeway. He suffered major concussion, whiplash, severe muscle contusions, spinal fractures, pain from head to tailbone. Due to this injury, he is now experiencing tremors, pain and numbness in his right arm and leg. He cannot stand nor lie down, nor sit for any length of time – he is in constant pain.
His old car was totaled and they were told it will take years for the motorcyclist’s insurance company to settle this case. They are in the process of applying for Social Security Disability and Medicaid to assist them during this traumatic time and, this may take several months to get processed.
He is the sole bread winner of the family and his wife is unable to work due to medical issues. He lost his job in November 2016, just got a new job working for three weeks before this accident occurred. He won't be able to return to work and he is not eligible for unemployment.
They have depleted almost all their savings and they are in dire need of your help, or else they will lose their house and everything. Please keep Steve and his family in your prayers. If you live in their neighborhood, please consider offering some kind of meal rotation. I am sure they will appreciate it greatly.
