Tornado Recovery Relief

Hello. We are Allyn and Anna Hummel. We are starting our first-ever GOFUNDME for our best friends, Derrick & Stephanie Lawrence. On Thursday, Jan 12th, 2023, their house and property sustained a great deal of damage from the EF3 tornadoes that went through Griffin and Spalding County Georgia. We were able to see the aftermath firsthand the following day. The pictures alone do not do it justice. Standing in the middle of all the destruction, you quickly feel so small and helpless but at the same time so relieved that they are ok. Seeing so many near misses makes it clear that "someone" was looking out for them on this day. The near misses are as follows:

Derrick left work to get home to be with his wife and their family pets ("kids"). He was able to get in the house, help wrangle the pets and hunker down in the bathtub just two minutes before the tornado was upon them and gone.

One tree crushed the car he just arrived in.

Another crashed down within a foot of the 300-gallon propane tank. “Fortunately” this tree came crashing down on the garage roof and backyard deck instead.

Other trees and sections of trees demolished the front porch railing and columns but somehow missed the praying angel statue and “The Lord’s Prayer” wind chimes that were hanging on the front porch. These two items were memorial gifts/keepsakes from the funerals of loved ones that have passed on. On this day, Derrick and Stephanie were most definitely watched over.

Now, to help out our friends in need, we are creating this GOFUNDME and ask that those who can support and watch over them as they go through this cleanup and rebuilding process, please do so. Tree removal and cleanup alone may be upwards of $15k above what insurance will cover. Please help ease this burden if you can.
