Tom Hutton's Medical Fund

We're still looking for another PCA for possibly night time and Saturday's.  Please let us know if you know of anyone that can help!

Thank you!

On August 8th, 2014 Lieutenant Thomas Hutton had an unforgettable night at his retirement party. He was celebrating the end of his 42 year career as a police officer for the town of Nahant. It was an amazing night filled with support and happiness for a job well done.

After that night Tom started to plan for the next steps in retirement. After working countless hours to help others it was time for Tom to enjoy life with his family.

Just 5 months later on January 9th, 2015, Tom slipped on a small patch of ice in his own driveway, falling and hitting his head and the back of his neck on the pavement. After several emergency surgeries, it was determined Tom suffered two fractured vertebrae in his neck and blood clot in his spinal area. This injury has left Tom bedridden and having to learn how to walk and get the use of his hands back.

It has now been almost 4 months since a simple fall changed our lives. He is currently at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown. However, Insurance will not pay for much more time in Spaulding, where he is getting the care he desperately needs.  Wheelchair accessible modifications will need to be made at Tom's home in Salisbury, Ma - he'll need ramps installed and a wheelchair accessible bathroom for him to use.   Once he's home - part of the visiting nurse visit costs will come out of pocket as well. Insurance also will not pay for all of the things he will now need to live at home - like a mechanical wheelchair, a hospital bed and tools for him to do simple things like brush his teeth and comb his hair.  Its a lot for the family to accomodate in such a short period of time.

This is where you come in.  Tom is one of those guys who would give you the shirt off of his back - and maybe in some cases for people reading this, he has.  He has never been the type to accept charity but he really needs it now.  We appreciate any amount you can give to help us bring Tom home safely.

THANK YOU, in advance, from the family!

Just an update to thank everyone that has donated to our fundraiser. Tom loves reading everyone's comments and is overwhelmed with the contributions. Please keep the support coming and pass the information along to friends and family if you can. They're going to need all the support they can get once Tom goes home! Thank you!!
