Tom Bjes' Bone Marrow Transplant

Tom Bjes was diagnosed in January of 2014 with Chronic Myelowmonocytic  Leukemia.  After receiving chemo therapy for 7 months along with his participation in a drug trial, Tom will be undergoing a Bone Marrow Transplant in November.  
It has been a long road for both Tom and his family as they attempt to remain positive in the face of his diagnosis and begin to prepare for what they hope will be the end of this terrible disease.  Undergoing the transplant will require a month's stay in the hopsital, followed up with over 100 days of an isolation period in his home.  It is in this time that Tom's body will begin to reject the disease that has plagued him and create a new immune system in its place.  

Tom's wife, Lori, is a Special Education Aid in an elementary school.  During Tom's transplant and recovery, she will be forced to take an unpaid leave of absence from her work as she will be unable to have contact with the children she cares for as it could jeopardize Tom's immune system.  Serving as his main caregiver, Lori will remain in isolation with Tom, only able to leave the home for his doctor visits and necessary errands. 

While Tom is living on disability, it will only be able to pay a fraction of his medical expenses for this extended period of time.  Any donation would be an immense help and a bit off of the heavy burden that now rests on the Bjes' shoulders.

Tom and his entire family have been moved by the outpouring of support from their friends and family in this difficult time.  They appreciate all the kind words and actions that thay have bared witness to in the past year.
