Thomas ‘Tom” Irving Marks passed away early the morning of March 16th, 2018 while doing what he loved – assisting customers to improve their food safety programs.
For those of us that have known and worked with Tom over the years, the Duke Chemistry graduate was bright, creative, dedicated to task and saw the very best in people. Tom had a huge heart and was always willing to assist, even when not requested. He loved to research topics, constantly learning, Tom possessed an amazing grasp of a wide variety of subject matter. He was a resource for navigating regulatory pathways with US EPA, FDA and USDA FSIS. A solid microbiologist and chemist, Tom loved working on the bench to both determine the nature problems and design potential solution steps. His recommendations were based upon historical referenced material, laboratory studies and in many cases, work that he had personally conducted.
Tom leaves behind his wife, Sharon Gravett Marks in Memphis as well as his sisters Ellen and Marian Marks and several nephews.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday, April 29th. Details are forthcoming. Funding is sought to defray final expenses and the memorial service. Your support is greatly appreciated.
