Together for Toni - Supporting the Behrens Family

To all our friends and family,

Toni Behrens, a beloved member of our community, has been facing an incredibly tough battle against cancer. Toni's journey has been one marked by resilience, courage, and an unwavering spirit that has touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, cherished teacher & artist – Toni is a shining example of stoic human spirit.

Her generous contribution to Mudgee’s creative community has extended to nearly two decades. Many of you would know Toni from the Mud Factory where two thirds of Mudgee’s kids would have grown up spending their afternoons creating to their hearts content. Toni and her husband, Warwick, own and operate Mudgee Art House continuing to support Mudgee creatively.

For those who don’t know, Toni has stage IV Cholangiocarcinoma, (cancer of the bile duct) and her determination to fight it is an inspiration to us all. Her husband, two children, mum, Dave, and extended family have been by her side, providing love and support throughout this harrowing journey.

As one can imagine, in managing this type of cancer, the impact to their emotional and financial confidence is both heavy and real with frequent visits to Sydney, Dubbo and Orange for treatment for the past year and a half. Although Toni has bravely continued working at Mudgee Art House in a reduced capacity, battling this cancer has severely impacted this family business’ offerings and incomes in areas related to Toni's skilled contribution. This in turn increases their struggle in the bigger picture.

The good news is, Toni has been accepted into a medical cancer trial in Melbourne which gives us all hope. This will require an initial one week stay, followed by treatment every three weeks. As Toni is not a Victorian resident, she is not eligible for subsidised accommodation, or travel, to and from. We are hoping to lighten this financial burden.
