To support Owen impacted by the Vernon House Fire

Donation protected
Hello everyone,

Due to a residential house fire on Thursday, August 22nd on Commonage Place in Vernon, two families are displaced and without a home. In the basement, lived Owen Wilson who was renting at the time of the fire and did not have renter’s insurance to cover the losses of his belongings. In the fire, everything on the upper unit was destroyed and in the basement, little is remaining due to the extensive smoke and fire damage.

Owen is an English Army veteran who recently left his family and friends in England and immigrated alone to Canada 4 months ago. He came to Canada with the hopes to support his family in England. He spent the past two months renovating the bottom floor of the house to make it livable to begin to start a life on his own in Canada. He utilized his savings from England to create this home, which was all lost in the fire.

Although we cannot replace Owen’s time, money, and dedication, we are hoping to raise money to support him in the process of creating and finding a home again.

Any support would greatly be appreciated!

More about Owen:

My husband, Amar, and myself, Harjot, met Owen backpacking in the Philippines in November 2017. He is one of those people in life that you meet and are instantly drawn to due to his kindness, compassion, and humor. Anyone who has met him can attest to his giving and kindhearted nature. We stayed in touch with Owen over the years and supported his move to Canada. He lived with us in May 2019 for a couple of months to gain employment and search for a home to make his own. During this time, he became a family member and began building a community in Vernon.

Owen found a house right next door to us and was ecstatic to have a home close to the only people he knew in Canada. He spent 2 months after work and on weekends to renovate the basement next door to create a home away from home. Unfortunately, after 3 and half weeks after officially moving in and buying everything he would need, his home was lost to a fire. He lost most his belongings in the fire. At this time, Owen is staying at our home until he can find another home (hopefully close to us).
