Julie’s Stage 4 Breast Cancer Fund

In early August, 2018, right before her 52nd birthday, our dear friend, our daughter, our sister, and speech therapist for many of our children, Julie Roberts was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer, and began immediate, aggressive chemotherapy treatment at Baylor College of Medicine. She will continue to receive chemotherapy (4 rounds of A/C, followed by 4 rounds of Taxil) through the end of the year.
Once complete, she will undergo an invasive, double mastectomy/reconstruction, with possible additional treatments for the mass in her liver. Post surgery, she will continue to receive hormonal therapy for the next five years.
Julie is a speech-language pathologist, living in the Houston area, with her son, Patrick. Julie has worked for twenty years, providing life changing therapy for hundreds of school-aged children, elderly adults, brain-injured patients and people who have lost the means to communicate post-stroke or, due to other life-altering events.
She is currently working with school aged children, as a supervisor/mentor for speech therapy assistants. She conducts assessments, and acts as a advocate in ARD meetings. She briefly left the hands-on aspect of her practice, to work in Corporate Healthcare, in the area of Ethics/Healthcare Compliance. She returned to her private speech practice, sacrificing both income and benefits, to return to her passion of helping others.
As a result of this aggressive treatment (and, subsequent side effects), Julie has had to significantly reduce her work hours, while the cost of treatment has exponentially increased each week. As she is a single mother, with her own private practice, her reduced income has taken a huge toll, financially, as well as emotionally.
Though blessed to have ACA insurance; the combination of the co-pays, the medication costs, the 20% deductible costs, her premiums ( which will increase in January 2019), have left her financially devastated. She is having to choose between paying her living expenses (rent, utilities, food, car, etc) and paying the medical bills.
Funds raised through this effort, will go directly to cover Julie's medical costs and will help supplement her living expenses.
