Well. Welcome to our new reality. Social distancing isn't easy for people used to being elbow to elbow and lit by neon. Yet here we are. By the time this virus finishes carving its swathe through this city, this country, this planet, no one will have escaped its devastating effects.
Bartenders are one of the hardest working communities and they will be one of the hardest hit. With little -- if any -- savings, often working off the books, the margin between paying the bills and not has always been mere weeks. And it appears this pandemic will be paralyzing us for far longer.
As Gaz Regan said, "No one goes to a bar for a drink." Like all great neighborhood bars, Lucky is more than just a place to buy a drink; it's a family. We celebrate together. We share in each other's triumphs and stumbles. We provide each other companionship and solace. We keep each other sane...well, as sane as it's possible for this Gallery of Weirdos to be! Now that we are unable to do this in person, we've been doing it online. Our nightly Virtual Lucky Happy Hours have been propping up morale and bringing us together. But it's tough to slide a few bucks across the bar when we're all quarantined in our apartments. You can, however, slide a few bucks across the interwebz! Thus, this GoFundMe campaign!
Our $18,000 goal will be evenly distributed between our nine bartenders: Pinky, Cara, Zero, Zofia, Alex, Donovan, Sandy, Joe and Tracie. It will save them from losing their homes. Allow them to feed their pets or care for their parents or keep the lights on. No amount is too small, because every little bit adds up to a lot! We've got some tempting "perks" (scroll to the bottom) that might sweeten the pot, so to speak. Keep an eye out here as we add more.
Yes, money is going to be tight...for everyone. Everyone. And we don't go begging like this lightly. If you can spare a few dollars, we will be ever so grateful. And we will graciously buy you your first post-Covid drink. In fact, if you know me, there will probably be a HUGE party once this is all over. Donors get in first! <wink> But seriously.
