Have you ever wondered what people remember about you? What they say about you when you aren't around? What they will say when your life is on the line?
For Tina, everyone remembers that she loves them more. It's her phrase - what she says to all of her close friends and family. And it's what everyone is talking about in the hospital waiting room and what everyone can't wait to say to her when they visit.
You see, Tina had a massive heart attack on June 29 while in Huntington, West Virginia. That's miracle #1. She lives an hour and a half drive away. She works about an hour away. She was in Huntington for a meeting, which is also where the best hospital in the tri-state area. Her meeting was at 1:30pm and her heart attack happened within a few minutes of the beginning of the meeting. God placed her in the right place at the right time.
She collapsed during the meeting and 911 was called. Unfortunately, no one performed CPR and without oxygen to her brain, there was major concern for brain damage. The paramedics worked hard on her while rushing to St. Mary's. They continued to work on her for hours, putting two stints into her arteries and chilling her body to 91 degrees - a relatively new treatment to prevent brain damage. She was in a medically induced coma for 2 days, on full life support. It was an agonizing two days as friends and family waited for her to show any signs of brain activity.
On Sunday, July 2, she opened her eyes for the first time. We were told that doesn't mean anything for cognitive ability. We had to wait until she followed commands before we knew the extent of her ability. But there was brain activity and that is miracle #2. She isn't brain dead.
On Tuesday, July 4, Tina was taken off of the balloon pump for her heart and started following commands: squeezing hands, giving thumbs up, nodding to answer questions. Over the course of several days, she became more alert and aware. That is miracle #3. She has cognitive ability beyond anyone's expectations for a person in her situation.
That brings us to today. While her body is bouncing back well, we still don't know the full extent of her cognitive ability because the process is very slow.
Regardless of the outcome, it will be a long road of recovery for Tina. Unfortunately, Tina does not have medical insurance and the bills for her care will be overwhelming.
We are asking for three specific things:
- Prayer for Tina's full physical and mental recovery
- Donations to assist with Tina's medical expenses
- Notes, cards, well wishes for Tina, to know how many of you are praying for her and love her
