Tina's Recovery Assitance

At the beginning of this year, our mother Tina discovered a mass on her throat.  With the chaos and financial distress that COVID brought in March, she was unable to see a specialist at that time. She instead found herself unemployed and without health insurance, much like the rest of America. Finally in June, our mother was able to get in to see an oncologist.  They did a biopsy on the tumor, and discovered that she had lymphoma. After another month of tests and scheduling, my mom began radiation therapy in August. Through the course of twenty sessions, the tumor shrank and disappeared, and Mom was able to finish her radiation treatments two days after Labor Day. Despite the fact her tumor has disappeared, Tina is still undergoing testing to ensure that the cancer did not spread to her lungs, bones, or other tissues. She is now suffering extensive damage to her jaw and teeth as a result of the radiation. These issues, combined with her other numerous health problems, led her doctor to recommend she not work for the next full year and instead draw disability.

However, for some reason, our mother was denied this disability claim. While she is working to file an appeal with the aid of her doctors and others, it leaves her without any sort of income. The appeal process may take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, we've been told. This news, coupled with the unemployment that COVID caused, has left our mother without any real income. She is not of retirement age, and has no social security or other income to supplement her during this time. She has been living off her remaining unemployment funds, but we fear those are also running out. While we have came together as a family to get her through this time, the financial stress of it is too much for us to bear. We now ask you, our friends, family, and fellow humans, to help us. Tina is not only an amazing mother to three daughters, but a loving grandmother and the backbone of our family. She has worked tirelessly her entire life to provide for us and her grandchildren. Anyone who knows her, knows she will go out of her way to help anyone she can. We now humbly ask for that love and help be sent back to her. Any amount you can spare, be it even $1, would be appreciated beyond measure.
