When Tim Smith first started handing out towels at the Boston Rescue Mission’s overnight shelter program, he might not have known quite what he was getting into. But after 15 years of service, a bachelor’s and master’s degree, a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor certification, two industry awards and a LOT of clients, Tim is firmly committed to healing for those in recovery.
"Sometimes what we see and hear is heartbreaking," says Tim about his work, "and yet we will also be able to bear witness to kindness, recovery, and the healing of spirits that makes us joyful."
But now, after years of helping others, Tim is the one who needs help… Tim is facing several different kinds of Cancer, which came upon him suddenly. One day everything was fine and a few weeks later he had learned of 3 different kinds of Cancer.
Tim has already undergone one surgery and is expecting two more, not to mention many treatments and testing. Even with health insurance, the cost of co-pays, treatments, and prescriptions are piling up. It's scary enough to face Cancer but even worse when you have to wonder where you will come up with the money to pay all the medical bills.
I've known Tim a long time and know that he doesn't like to ask for help, he prefers to be the one giving it! I can't tell you how many people he has helped over the years in so many forms. Now it's our turn to help him!
