Time Farm

Time Farm is a noncommercial contemporary art gallery (based at MIT under the MIT Press Bookstore, and in another location in Cambridge, MA) that asks visitors to remain for one hour of solitude while encountering an object, and to give up information technology for the duration (i.e., in most cases, hand over their phones for the hour). The purpose of this project is to offer gallerygoers the possibility of immersive attention—or even, simply, an interruption in whatever mode of attention they normally experience, which for many of us means constant fragmentation. We believe that even apparently static artworks require durational immersion to be meaningfully apprehended, and that the conventional situation of gallery display no longer makes this possible.  Time Farm is dedicated to cultivating attentional literacy and to artforms that demand slow reading.

This fundraiser is crucial for the continued existence of the gallery. Thank you very much to those who have already contributed! What your contributions are allowing us to do:

1. Establish a modest artist's fee for exhibitions.
2. Pay the attendants who currently volunteer their time to allow visitors into the galleries.
3. Publish an artist's book with each show.
4. Hold a temporary, "popup" exhibition in a different town or city each quarter.
5. Incorporate as a state nonprofit with the purpose of working toward federal nonprofit, 501(c)(3) status.
