Time off for treatement

Donation protected
About a month ago I noticed I was very tired all the time and after bleeding (a lot) from my rectum for 5 days I called my doctor and she sent me to the emergency room.  They suggested a colonoscopy that was done two weeks ago.  Results from that showed what they thought was a low risk pre cancer polyp that was scheduled to be removed a week later.  This process should have taken less than a hour but after almost two hours in the OR a bit remained because it was so deeply embedded.  After testing the polyp is classified as high risk pre cancer and the doctors are concerned that there may actually be cancer in my colon under the polyp so to resolve this they are going to take out part of my small and large intestine where the polyp was.

I was already anemic with my hemoglobin at 9.3 in the emergency room (normal is 12-15). Now it's 5.1 at last test.

As a result of all of this I will have iron infusion on Tuesday for my blood followed by Colectomy on Wednesday with a 5 day stay in the hospital.

This has all happened so fast. I haven't been able to work alot of days in the last months and it looks like I'm going to need at least a few more weeks off to have surgery.
Unfortunately, as an Independant Contractor there is no sick leave or vacation time.
