Attention Bismarck and St. Mary's Central High friends,
It's been a long time.
Our friend Tim Roach is battling a very rare type of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma called Waldenstroms Macroglobulinamia.
It's basically a cancer of the immune system.
Not feeling quite right and unable to work last summer, a relative got Tim to the emergency room, and he was sent home with a misdiagnosis of his condition.
Shortly afterwards, his condition was discovered, and Tim began monthly chemotherapy treatments in September of 2016.
Recently his doctors have determined that the original chemo plan was not yielding the
desired results, and they have come up with a new strategy that involves a more aggressive and frequent chemotherapy.
In short, this cancer has left Tim in a situation where he has not worked in almost a year.
He has covered his out of pocket medical expenses, and has had to sell belongings to make ends meet. His siblings have helped as much as they can. For those that may not know, the Roach's mother is battling Parkinson's Disease.
This can be a manageable situation, but it's a tough road to travel when resources come to an end, and there is no support system in town.
Tim is the type of fellow who refuses to ask for help, he's not a social media type as he likes playing guitar and doing upholstery projects in his spare time (which he has no interest in lately under the circumstances.)
Tim resides in Billings, Montana with his trusty dog Newman.
I stay in touch with Tim and have persuaded him to please accept help through this Go Fund Me effort.
A short story before I leave you...
When we were teenagers Tim and I would frequent the record store on Main Street in Bismarck (the building where the Front Page used to be.)
Every week when the new LPs arrived, we would buy records based on the groups that we were familiar with, or the sleeve art (hoping to discover the latest cool rock combo).
We would never buy the same records, and always competed about who scored and who didn't.
If my memory is correct, Tim used to review music for the Saint's newspaper, so this was important work.
One week, I purchased Black Sabbath's "Technical Ecstasy." It was Black Sabbath, and the cover was way cool!
Tim chose a record by an unknown band from Boston called Boston. We debated the cover art of both as we walked back to the hood near Saint Mary's High.
We gave Sabbath the first listen, it rocked as expected, but the ecstasy didn't materialize.
Boston on the other hand, as many of us remember was the soundtrack for most kids in high school that year.
Please help in any way you can, no amount is too little.
