While covering IDEX in Abu Dhabi this week, Tim Mahon, a well-respected and much-loved freelance journalist suffered a heart attack and needs a double / tripple by-pass surgery.
He cannot travel home for this.
The National Health Service in the UK refuses to cover him in the U.A.E.
We need to raise the money fast to cover this.
Mönch Verlag, the defence publisher, has already paid for the first phase of his expenses, but the rest is rather dear.
As a freelance journalist, Tim is not covered by any corporate travel insurance. Britain has all but abandoned him, one of its own.
U.A.E. law states that a private person, such as Tim, cannot leave the country until all debts are paid in full.
We are appealing to the defence industry, colleagues, friends in the media and more to kindly help stump up for donations to pay off the debt so Tim can be treated without worry and be allowed to travel home.
