Tim is a former Special Forces/Green Beret. Tim has ALS. A fatal disease, that ravages your body and deteriorates your muscles. It is a fatal disease. 50% of all ALS diagnosed patients are military veterans. It is believed (not proven) given this high rate of incidence within the military, these veterans have been exposed to environmental or chemical toxins.
There is no family history of either front temporal dementia or neurological diseases in Tim's family. There is no treatment. The disease progressives until the body can no longer expel carbon dioxide and intake oxygen. Prior to this end of life event, the Tim has begun the loss of muscle control - throat/swallowing/inability to use his hands/loss of cognitive abilities (FTD), chest muscle strength - slow deterioration of use of his limbs, throat muscles, lung muscles, and breathing . IT IS A HORRIBLE WAY TO DIE. Every week, more deterioration.
The funds from this account will support Tim's end of life needs. Round the clock care and cost of qualified in-home nursing and caregiver staffing. A memorable trip or two to his favorite places prior to immobility.
Tim lived and loved life (almost to its fullest). He was a complete dichotomy in that he was a serious academic and highly respected attorney, he was a Green Beret/Special Forces member, he was an outrageous party planner, he could share a tale/story/joke better than anyone we have ever known, he loved many, his need to move made him uncatchable, he is a man of faith and accepting and he was kind.
Your support through visits, cards, recognitions is what he needs. Money is secondary. He needs support from those who can walk and recognize this journey and can provide words of strength and care. He has touched many - please touch him back.
