Tijuana Zine Fest to Short Run Seattle

Some of you know us as Luisa and David. Some of you know us as the people who help run Tijuana Zine Fest, Out Here, or our new project Todo Eso.

We’re artists, educators, and organizers from the Tijuana-San Diego border. We work with visuals, with text, with communities, with children, with people. We work to build communication and empathy. We mainly use play and creativity to create paths toward dialogue. 

And we also use zines! Which is part of why we’re here today.

We were invited to table at Short Run in Seattle! Short Run Comix and Arts Festival is an independent festival 8 years in the running. They bring people together from all over the world to share their work as comic artists and illustrators. 

We’re very excited to participate in this festival and to meet new people. But most importantly, to share our friends’ and colleagues’ work. As organizers of a festival ourselves, we find it really important to use these opportunities as platforms to share other people’s work. To share the work of Tijuana-San Diego artists and friends.

As artists, we’re typically short on cash. We are used to investing in our own work and we’re happy to do so, but we also believe in community funding, which is why we ask our friends, families, any member of the Tijuana - San Diego community, and any fan of independent art and community building to donate to our campaign. 

We will be using the funds for basic trip costs. Any money made beyond funding the trip will go towards printing other artists’ zines!!!

¡Nos invitaron a Short Run en Seattle! Short Run Comix and Arts Festival es un festival independiente con 8 años de trayectoria. Reúnen a personas de todo el mundo para compartir su trabajo como dibujantes de cómics e ilustradores.

Estamos muy emocionadxs de participar en este festival y de conocer gente nueva. Pero sobre todo, de compartir el trabajo de nuestrxs amigxs y colegas. Como organizadores de un festival, consideramos realmente importante utilizar estas oportunidades como plataformas para compartir el trabajo de otras personas. Para compartir el trabajo de artistas y amigxs de Tijuana-San Diego.

Como artistas, normalmente tenemos poco dinero. Estamos acostumbradxs a invertir en nuestro propio trabajo y estamos felices de hacerlo, pero también creemos en el apoyo comunitario, por eso le pedimos a nuestrxs amigxs, familias, a cualquier miembro de la comunidad de Tijuana - San Diego y a cualquier fanático de arte independiente y la creación comunitaria que apoyen nuestra campaña.

Usaremos los fondos para los costos básicos del viaje. ¡Cualquier dinero que se reuna de más se destinará a imprimir zines de otrxs artistas!
