Thrill the World - Ajijic

Donation protected
"THRILL THE WORLD" is an annual worldwide simultaneous dance of Michael Jackson's "Thriller." Here in the Lake Chapala area of Mexico, it has become a popular event where Zombies young and old, Mexican & Ex-Pats learn the dance and raise money for local Charities.

This year, our goal is to raise funds for 2 Charities:  Tepehua in Chapala and School for Special Children (AKA School for the Deaf) in Jocotepec.

Tepehua Centro Comunitario AC was started seven years ago with a soup kitchen in one of the poorest Barrios in the State of Jalisco. It took two years to gain their trust and realize we were working to help improve their lives. Through weekly social gatherings we've learned about the women's basic needs and began our outreach program there. With the support of donors we have gradually covered each family member's needs by creating individual projects.  Currently major projects include improving education and maternal health.
This school semester the Center was able to put 241 children into the school system and support 17 students in University with the aid of Sponsors. We believe we can help break the cycle of poverty through education.
Our free clinic covers Dentistry, Family Planning, Sonograms, General family health, Pediatrics and
Pharmaceuticals.  In addition to our focus on improved education, we also offer English, Sewing and Adult Literacy classes. We have a Bazaar where we sell donated items.  In addition, we provide Counseling for Addictions and Marital issues.

The School for Special Children (AKA School for the Deaf) in Jocotepec was established in Jocotepec when an old chicken coop was cleaned up and used as the first classroom.  After many years of hard work and donations from Sponsors, the school now has space for a wide variety of children with special needs, such as Downs Syndrome and Autism.  They have seven well-maintained classrooms, a small computer lab, a library and free lunch program.  The Teachers and Principal, many of whom have been with the school for over twenty years, perform a daily "dance" to show the children just what they are capable of and guide them to aspire to great things.  Deaf children with normal intelligence are now mainstreamed much earlier into the public education system.  They use dance and music as a part of their education program to encourage camaraderie, fun and physical movement.  Michael Jackson would have been inspired by these young students and performers.

Fortunately, the US dollar is strong at the moment and the current exchange rate is $17.74 pesos to $1.00 USD. Your donations go a LONG way down here towards helping our local Charities.

Elliott Joaquim started this event over 7 years ago with just a few participants and each year, we have grown not only in numbers of "Zombies" but also in the amounts raised. Last year, we recieved and donated over $200,000 Mexican Pesos for Cruz Roja.

Rehearsals to learn the choreography/steps are currently in progress. Please join us each Saturday from 1-3 pm and/or Wednesday from 5-7 pm at The Ajijic Cultural Center in the Ajijic Plaza. Any man, woman and child who wishes to learn how to do the "Thriller" dance steps. can do it! This year, we hope to have at least 100 local Zombies dancing on the Ajijic village square!

This year, the International "Thrill the World" event will take place on Saturday, October 28th at 4:00 pm, C.S.T. in front of the Ajijic Cultural Center.  Local participants ranging in age from 4 to 75+ will thrill the crowd and the official video will be uploaded to You Tube as soon as possible.

We raise money in the same way that a walkathon does, by getting pledges. All the Zombies are out hitting up their friends and family, and every single donation, big or small, is a significant help. This is your chance to adopt a Zombie. We all thank you in advance. We and all who live in our lakeside Paradise need your help!!!

Apparently, Go Fund Me doesn't have a way to wire these funds to a bank in Mexico nor will they mail a check to Mexico, so in order to get the funds raised to the Charities, I, as the Campaign Organizer, will withdraw the funds and deliver them to the Charities in Mexico.

Once again, many thanks for your kindness and generosity.
