Thomas J. Sawyer Medical Fund

Sadly, Thomas J. Sawyer, age 62 of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin is faced a daunting, serious medical challenge due to unexpected leg amputation as a result of complications from undiagnosed diabetes.

On July 30,2018, Tom was admitted to the emergency room for an "open sore" on his right foot. He was almost immediately taken into surgery; the first of 4 surgeries total in 11 days. Two surgeries were attempted to save his foot. But the very aggressive strain of gaseous gangrene, which also entered his bloodstream causing sepsis (blood poisoning) was too challenging.

Tom then underwent a 3rd surgery to amputate the foot completely and the final 4th amputation on 8/8/18 removed his leg below the knee. He spent a total of 23 days in the hospital.

The shock of his sudden illness and struggle to survive was very difficult, but his drive to come home to his family one day was strong and unwavering.

In the wake of these surgeries, medications, physical therapy and the long journey ahead to walk again with a prosthetic leg has led us to reach out to our family and friends for your help. Although very humbling for such a proud man, he agreed to let me set up this strictly medical account.

Any small act of kindness will be greatly appreciated and never forgotten!

We thank God everyday that Tom did survive and are blessed with good friends and family. May God bless you all.

Thank you from,
Tom and Susan Sawyer
