This Family is Now Homeless

My neighbors recently experienced a major disaster. Their basement was flooded because of a damaged or otherwise clogged culvert through which water cannot flow. None of us live in a flood zone and therefore, they, like most of us, do not have flood insurance. The county has for now condemned their home and will not allow them to move back until potential electrical issues, among others, have been resolved.

Personal belonging are being cleaned and stored in a POD. They are living with friends. Neighbors are helping, but, bottom line is they are temporarily homeless. Drywall has been removed, carpet and tile are being removed, furniture has been destroyed or must be cleaned and, in some cases, refinished. A water restoration company must remove all the water, treat for mold, and generally make the basement safe. Electricians must certify that the electrical system is safe and the heating/air conditioning system is safe and operational. The entire basement must have new drywall and then it has to be painted. Flooring has to be replaced. This is a major undertaking and a very expensive one.

Bottom line, they are in need of help.
