Theresa is my younger sister. She is also a daughter, wife and mother. Close family members know her as Sita. Theresa was diagnosed with Stage 4 Liver Disease (Liver failure) in 2019. For years doctors were unable to diagnose her and she has been seen by numerous doctors from Jefferson, Einstein Medical, Temple University and most recently the University of Pennsylvania. Finally, the doctors at the University of Pennsylvania discovered what was causing her abnormal liver function she suffered with since high school. The name of her chronic illness is Primary Biliary Cirrhosis. Very simply, this is considered an autoimmune disease, which means her body's immune system is mistakenly attacking healthy cells and tissue. As her liver continues to fail to work adequately, she faces other health issues that now affect her quality of life. She has been in and out of hospital since February of this year. Theresa was finally placed on the National Donor Registry in July of 2020 and now awaits a living or a deceased donor match to return to a normal and healthy life.
During this time, Theresa has struggled emotionally. Her wife, Marirose and their 3 children help her maintain a positive outlook. In addition to raising her 3 daughters, she is also caring for her nephew. Theresa is an involved parent and is deeply saddened because of the lack of participation she can provide to the ones she loves the most during this very debilitating situation.
Theresa is a fighter! She still manages to work a full time job despite her health challenges. Her job provides the essential health insurance she so desperately needs. Without medical coverage, Theresa would not be able to cover the cost of her life sustaining medication. She is unsure if she can maintain employment during the transplant process.
Your donation would help Theresa focus on healing and returning to a happy and healthy life! All contributions will be used for medical expenses, such as insurance premiums, deductibles, medications and other out of pocket costs. Helping her focus on her well being versus the exacerbating costs of this medical condition will provide a safety net and peace of mind.
