Thank Goodness He Was Wearing a Helmet!

     As most of you know, Sean Pearce is a responsible, hard-working and kind young man. Even though he considers safety first when commuting by motorcycle, he was involved in a pretty serious accident on Friday, December 21, 2018. It is a good thing he had all the appropriate protective gear on. He was injured anyway...but it could have been MUCH worse! When he landed he broke his back in two places. The doctors were not sure of the extent of the damage, because he could not feel his legs or his buttock, at the time.  After an extra long and complicated surgery, they are sure that he will have a "full recovery." Of course with a couple of rods an several screws, that means with somewhat limited movement. 
     The recovery is expected to take 6 to 8 weeks. At that time, Sean will be able to go back to work. However, many have shared concerns regarding how he is going to be able to meet his financial needs in the meantime. These concerns are valid. Sean worked hard in NV and made a little nest egg...but most of it was used up relocating and helping family with some big projects. He is going to apply for disability, but has no idea how long that process will take. Also, since he has only worked in CA for a short time, he is not sure how much that would be. 
     So, Sean's family is setting up this GoFundMe to hopefully help him with regular living expenses for the next two months.  We are mostly concerned with his rent and regular monthly bills. 
     If you are interested in helping with $10 or $20 that would be fantastic. If you cannot help monetarily, but want to show support,  Sean is always happy to accept your good thoughts, prayers and greetings.

     On Friday, Dec. 21, Sean was on his way to work, driving his motorcycle. A car was stalled in the middle of the road. The car ahead of Sean swerved out of the way, but Sean did not swerve quite soon enough. The right side of Sean's bike hit the left side of the stalled car, throwing him. He landed on his tailbone. The bike came to rest on his left leg. When bystanders helped him get the bike off, Sean could not feel his legs. He was braced by the first responders and was not given much information until Sunday. Because he was unsure just how badly he was injured, Sean chose not to tell most of his family. He did tell his boss and his cousin, Alan, but swore them to secrecy. 
     Sean was taken to Scripps Hospital where it was determined that he had broken two vertebrae. He had surgery on Sunday, Dec. 23, where it was determined that the bone damage was worse than expected, but that there would be no permanent nerve damage, (no paralysis)! He will have to learn to live with some screws that were implanted, but he is expected to have a "full recovery" if he follows the doctors' instructions.
     Once Sean's parents found out about the accident, needless to say they were quite concerned. Sean took a selfie, that shows him standing and smiling after the surgery. From this picture you cannot tell that he had been in a serious accident just three days prior and had major surgery just one day before! (hence the original title, "There's a Reason For Helmet Laws"! I was told the title was misleading, though, so it has now been changed.
     Sean was discharged, (without his meds) on the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 28, (just one week after the accident)! He was finally all settled in, with meds, by about midnight. His parents were there to help him get settled and his cousin/roommate will be home from vacation soon.
