1 in 3 women is affected by pelvic floor dysfunction. TheraTouch Physiotherapy is a Women-Owned physiotherapy clinic in Ottawa. We would like to be the bridge between women suffering from these conditions and the treatment they need. For so long, women have been told to live with many treatable conditions, under the guise of it being normal. Just because something is common does not make it normal. Every woman with pelvic floor dysfunction, especially pregnant women and new moms should have access to pelvic floor physiotherapy.
All donations will cover the cost of pelvic physiotherapy assessment and treatment services. The goal is to be able to provide pelvic patients with a minimum of 2 free sessions, one assessment ($150), and one treatment ($110), which will be covered by the funds from the donations. Though more than 2 sessions is usually needed, the hope is to get patients exposed to the benefits of pelvic health physiotherapy and hopefully, the free sessions will offset their costs. Individual exceptions may be made to offer more than 2 sessions based on need.
Our goal is to not only raise awareness about women’s pelvic health but also, create access to treatment. Common pelvic floor conditions that Theratouch Physiotherapy will treat include incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, pregnancy-related pain, overactive bladder syndrome, diastasis recti abdominis, Dyspareunia (painful intercourse ), vulvodynia, vaginismus, etc.
In an ideal world, every woman, especially pregnant persons should have access to physiotherapy, and more importantly, every postpartum mother should see a pelvic health physiotherapist to be assessed. As a pelvic health physiotherapist and a mother myself, l benefited firsthand from pelvic physiotherapy postpartum when I developed pelvic floor dysfunction. I also know that there are financial constraints that come with having a child and being on maternity leave (with significantly decreased income). This experience sparked the desire to provide more awareness and access to other moms like me.
Many women suffer in silence because discussions around pelvic health are taboo for some people. TheraTouch Physiotherapy wants to change this. Women should be able to access the care they need to improve their quality of life.
TheraTouch Physiotherapy aims to support women's needs by providing assessment and treatments, education and empowerment to get their life back and get back to doing activities they love.
Please contribute any amount you can to support us to bring our vision into reality and provide women with the support they need
