So what is a cat cafe? We're glad you asked!
On one side, a cat cafe is just a regular place to get pastries, coffee, teas, beer or wine, hand crafted sodas, freshly made cold-pressed organic juices, and snacks from our wonderful purristas. It's a place to bring your laptop and use free Wi-Fi while you enjoy a good morning pick me up. Or a place to unwind during a busy day. Local artists hang their art on the walls. Perhaps that day we have a theatrical reading, or a board game night. A place to meet and hang out with friends.
But the other side of a cat cafe is a room where cats can be watched, played with, and adopted.
If you need some kitty snuggles, there’s a small cover fee, that includes a free drink, and then you go into a separate area to play with and hang out with a whole bunch of free roaming, fully adoptable cats. (Yes, separate, not only for code purposes but so we can welcome those who are allergic to cats into our coffee shop area.)
The world's first cat cafe opened in Taiwan in 1998. A few years later, they started to open in Japan, which is where the concept took off. The concept spread to Europe and then to the United States in 2014.
Cat cafes in the United States differ from those in many other countries with their focus on adoptions. So you can come down to The Kitty Beautiful, pick up a vegan muffin, a glass of fresh cold-pressed carrot apple juice, a glass of beer or wine, go play with cats, and if you fall in love, adopt them and take them home.
And we're going to have tons of special events. Things like mewvie nights, cat yoga (meowmaste!), crafting with cats, a kids kitten club, children's storybook hour, date nights, morning kitty specials, college night discounts, cat bingo, d&d with cats, theatrical readings and more!
And our cat area will have a special party room available for special events such as birthday parties and private events. Does your office want to have a cat cafe night out? You can!

That's why we're excited to announce The Kitty Beautiful, a cat cafe, here in downtown Orlando. Our café will be located on State Lane, right next to the big Bank of America corporate building, one block off of Orange Avenue.
The name is a play on our Orlando city motto, The City Beautiful. Because of our connection to Orlando Organics, almost all items in the cafe will be organic. Our coffee will be organic and free trade, many items will be vegan, and our cold pressed fresh juice will be mostly organic.
Our cats will come from Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, and are all looking for their furrever homes.
Because our children are both on the autism spectrum, we're working with local groups connected to spectrum related disorders to hire employees on the spectrum. So many of these young adults don’t have a lot of opportunities and we want to help correct that.

So, what do we need this money for?
It will take well over $100,000 to open our doors. It's expensive to open a business in Orlando. There are so many costs you never even think of.
Everything from build out costs and subcontractors to cat furniture to coffee beans and napkins. Permitting costs from the City of Orlando. Our substantial rent deposits. Lights, cabinets, granite countertops. Tables and chairs. A high end commercial cappuccino machine and cold-pressed juicer. Parking modifications and beer and wine licenses. Coffee grinders. Utility costs. Liability insurance. Painting. Flooring. Financial software, point of sale systems, cat food, litter, and so much more.
Thanks to months of work in obtaining a startup loan backed by the Small Business Administration, our life savings, and friends who have invested, believing in our dream, we have gotten over 90% of the way to our financial goals.
And so we’re turning to GoFundMe for help from you, to help us get closer to and across the finish line and open our doors this spring with that last 10%.
The more people who donate, the more amazing we can make The Kitty Beautiful. If we somehow surpass our goal, then every additional dollar can go into making our space even more amazing.
