Forty- five years ago, the Delany Center for Educational Enrichment was founded by Sister St. John Delany, PhD, associate professor in the School of Education at Pace University. The Delany Center was originally named The Center for Literacy Enrichment and was established to help improve the developmental reading skills of children in White Plains, NY.
In the years since, The Delany Center at Pace University has broadened its reach to serve thousands of students throughout Westchester, Putnam, Fairfield and Rockland counties. All instruction is delivered by tutors and teachers certified by the State of New York. Programming takes place at the Education House on Pace University's Law School campus in White Plains.
The Delany Center is the only full-service program in Westchester County affiliated with a private, four-year university and law school.
Sr. M. St. John Delany is a tenured Associate Professor in the School of Education at Pace University in the School of Education, founder and Director of The Delany Center and a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion. She has also served as the faculty Chair in the School of Education. A strong record of accomplishments in tutoring and teaching has made her a key player in the development of community-based programming in Westchester County, and a recognized leader in the literacy instruction field.
So after reading all of that... are you asking yourself the question of: "What makes this place so special?"
Well, it is simple and the answer is Sister St. John. Sister keeps the The Center alive. She has been able to turn a building into a comfortable, cozy and safe place for students to flourish. Most students that need help academically are insecure about themselves and their skills. Her reach even goes beyond the young students because she mentors all the tutors. Sister helps mold and transform the tutors to be future teachers with their own classroom one day. At The Center, along with Sister's help and wise words, students AND tutors build their confidence and become responsible and proud of their improvements. With all of her credentials and the brilliance that she possesses on so many levels, Sister is simply… a true vision of inspiration.
We started this campaign as a fundraiser for Sister. We started this hoping to raise funds for new supplies, technology, scholarships, tutors and guest speakers. Please donate and help us to move the mission of The Delany Center and the teachings of Sister St. John forward!
