Dear Family and Friends,
I am travelling to one of the last bastions of untouched marine life in the world.. Raja Ampat, in Indonesia.
I have taken inspiration from National Geographic Photographer Joel Satore's, 'Photo Ark'. A photographic encyclopaedia of 9000 species and counting, of the world's animal species.
In his words, “It is folly to think that we can destroy one species and ecosystem after another and not affect humanity. When we save species, we’re actually saving ourselves.”
My plan is to continue his work, but underwater, and photograph and identify as many coral species as I can, before the next, inevitable mass coral bleaching event, caused by rising oceanic temperatures, which is predicted to occur within the next 5 years.
The hope is to highlight the fragility of these mostly unseen ecosystems, that contribute invaluable geographical stability to the world's economy, health and beauty. That it might bring some awareness to the devastating effect we are having on our marine environments, and the severe loss if we don't try and do something about it now, as there is no later.
Any contributions, no matter how small, will be deeply appreciated.
Thank you for reading and helping me try and make a difference.
