Theatre of the Wild's - REACH

What is Theatre of the Wild?
Part documentary theater company, part service organization, and part alpine expedition, Theatre of the Wild is a company that asks artists and audiences to do more. Each original Theatre of the Wild production is devised on its feet, and documents the slow progress of real-life events as they act upon the producing ensemble, led by Artistic Director Mike Largent. Whether this means documenting an expedition up a 14er, summiting of Imja Tse, or dispensing with theatrics entirely to promote public-dialogue-as-theatre, Theatre of the Wild strives in every way to demolish the walls of theatrical convention.

Towards the end of this year, in November, Artistic Director Mike Largent will lead four college students on the expedition of a lifetime! During a three-week period, Mike and his team will summit Island Peak in the Himalayan mountain range (most famous for Mount Everest).  As if being next to such a massive masterpiece wasn't enough, these people will be devising a one-of-a-kind theatrical piece: REACH.

What is REACH?
Since every Theatre of the Wild piece is devised on its feet, it is not yet set in stone as to what it will be, but this is the nature of devised work. However, it will embody the risks that an artist can take while doing what they love. This experience will push these artists to limits they have never been pushed to before. In order to see the world from such an incredible point of view, they will REACH to the heavens.

To do this, we need your help!
We need to raise the funds to purchase the following things:
-Airline tickets from Los Angeles, California to Kathmandu, Tibet and back (about $800 per person)
-The trekking company that will provide us with the neccessary gear and guidance to be able to summit Island Peak (the most expensive part, about $2,200 per person)
-Extra cash to support the crew's needs: food, housing off of the mountain, and medical attention if necessary (about $500 per person)
(This is a very high risk/high reward situation, so we want to be prepared if an emergency should arise)
-Advertisement costs and cost of production to bring this devised piece to the stage and audiences (about $2,500 for project REACH)

We figure the cost of Mike and his team is about $3,500 per person, plus an additional $2,500 for production costs. With that being said we established a $20,000 goal to have all of our bases covered.

Funding this project would mean the world to these dedicated artists and adventurers! With your help they can achieve something that has never been done before: bringing the wonders of the OUTDOOR world INSIDE for you to watch, center stage.

Those who donate and are interested in experiencing our live show are encouraged to leave their email address and current city so that we can reach out to you with dates, times, and locations of the performances, and hopefully tour to a location near you.
