Amy needs a transplant. Be a hero, get tested!

Are you the hero we’ve been searching for?
Did you know that you can donate part of your liver to save a life?
Needless to say the medical bills are also mounting while we search for a donor!
Amy needs a transplantUpdate 7/25/2019
We are scheduled to go back to the Transplant Center on the 30th of this month to complete the last of Amy's testing. I am hopeful that when the Transplant Board meets again shorty after our appointments, we will get the approval to get her on the transplant list. Many of you had volunteered to get tested to see if you are a match. Finally, I have some information on how you'd go about that.

Because it's a major surgery, and both the Transplant Center and I want to make sure that there's not even the appearance of coercion, I would ask that you individually call The Living Donor Office at 1-800-333-9013. Ask to speak with a living donor coordinator. Thank you again for your love, support, and encouragement. We need it and appreciate it very much. I've tagged many of you who had vounteered. Some of you are not directly connected to me on FB, so I was not able to tag you. The slight is not intentional.

Update 5/23/19

We met with the liver specialist this morning. Amy's file has been referred to the University of Michigan Hospital Transplant Team, which is a good thing. Our liver specialist defers to the transplant specialists, who will be conducting in-depth examinations of Amy to determine if she is able to handle the transplant process. They will also coordinate any potential live donors, and I will not have any further informaiton until I speak with them, next week at the earliest. Having Amy's file referred now is a double-edged sword: we're three months ahead of the original timeline for referral, but the reason for the speed is that Amy's liver is "decompensating." That is, it's failing in a host of biological functions it normally handles in healthy people. So, to all of you who have graciously offered to get tested-- We are so very grateful, and ask for your continued patience as this process plays out.

My friends, this is the hardest thing I've ever had to write. My beloved wife, Amy, has been diagnosed with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and has been fighting this for several months. She is in end-stage liver failure, and is battling this disease with all her heart and soul. Her liver, however, is not cooperating.

This is not an illness that will get better on its own, and we don't have the luxury of time. We've been treating her symptoms as aggressively as possible, but the only cure is a liver transplant. Quite frankly, there are not enough organs available to meet the demand, though we hope and pray that there will be one with Amy's name on it, so to speak. Our best chance at success, though, is from a live donation. Healthy livers can regenerate themselves; her cirrhotic liver cannot. We are asking, nay begging, for some of our friends and family to consider being tested to see if they are compatible with Amy, and to determine if they qualify to donate a portion of their healthy liver. It's a huge, huge favor to ask, but would you please consider being tested for compatibility? We don't make this request easily or lightly, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Please send me a private message if you're willing and able.

This is a picture from two years ago, when we renewed our wedding vows and Amy's parents walked her down the aisle. I'd like to do that all over again, when Amy is healthy and able. Please, won't you help? Please share this with with your friends. Maybe the miracle will come from someone we don't even know yet.

Humbly,

Chuck and Amy
