The William Penn Story

Donation protected

Brotherly Love Theatre Company  is raising funds to help pay its amazing artists and musicians for their incredible work in our largest production to date, The William Penn Story.    We are in partnership with Fairmount Park Conservancy and Parks and Rec and will give proceeds from this show to help further preserve and share the history of Philadelphia.   This world premier musical is debuting at Lemon Hill Mansion, on land formerly owned by William Penn himself, in the city he founded on principles of tolerance, justice, and liberty.

In re-telling the story of Philadelphia's founder, we hope to reignite a compassion for others that William Penn so boldly embodied.  In the face of tyranny, persecution, slander, and oppression, William Penn fought, through writings, appeals, civil-disobedience, and a faith-inspired dedication to justice for the rights of people everywhere to honor their own consciousnesses.  In staying true to his beliefs and convictions William Penn suffered through rigged trials, prolonged imprisonments, years spent in hiding from false accusations.  Initiating a City of Brotherly Love  required the sacrifice of his time, his finances, and his well-being.

At a time in our history when immigrants fleeing violence and persecution are being met with disdain and trauma, we want to tap into the root of what makes this nation so special and important.  William Penn hoped that his "Holy Experiment"  would serve as an "example . . . to the nations."  Reflecting on the founder of Philadelphia, Thomas Jefferson called him, "the greatest lawgiver the world has produced; the first, either in ancient or modern times, who has laid the foundation of government in the pure and unadulterated principles of peace, of reason and right."

Please, help us create art that has meaning and significance in today's world.   Any donation will be received with gratitude, but please, give your heart out!   Our donor levels are fun, exciting, and amendable!  If you can't help financially at this time, please, share our campaign, tell your friends, co-workers, family!  The work continues!  THANK YOU!
