As I fled Gaza amid relentless bombardments and death, my heart weighed heavy with fear for my family, neighbors, and friends left behind. It's this fear and urgency that fuels my determination to be their voice – a role I have always embraced.
My now destroyed home library
I am Mahmoud Jouda, a 38-year-old writer from Gaza City. The cost of leaving Gaza with my wife and two children exceeded $20,000, the price we paid after our beautiful home was destroyed, forcing us into displacement. The pain was exacerbated by leaving behind our beautiful home as we fled south at the onset of the war, then recently to Cairo, unable to salvage any belongings, even our memories.

I have launched this campaign to secure financial assistance in my exile, allowing me to document the atrocities of war I have witnessed and endured, ensuring the world does not turn a blind eye to the untold stories of the victims and those who have been orphaned, widowed, and many left as amputees.
I am a committed writer, and I have published three books, all through personal effort and funding, focusing primarily on the victims in Palestine and Gaza
Book signing events
The first book, titled "Orphaned Gaza," was released in 2015. It contains testimonials and stories from the 2014 war. Some of its stories have been translated into multiple languages and adapted into films.
The second book, "Letters to Baghdad," was published in 2018, and I dedicated it to my daughter, whom I named Baghdad. The book explores Gaza City from social, political, and cultural perspectives

The third book, titled "Garden of Lost Legs,” was released in 2022. It documents testimonials about the struggles of amputees, particularly women and youths, during the popular marches from 2018 to 2020. This book was selected among numerous applicants for translation into Dutch by "Jurgen Maas" Publishers.

As a consequence of the war, both my wife and I lost our jobs. The financial strain from the costs of displacement and travel arrangements depleted our resources significantly. I am unable to finance my documentary book project shedding light on the tragedy of the 2024 war, which claimed the lives of over 100,000 individuals, including the dead, wounded, and missing. This staggering toll amounts to 4.5% of Gaza's population. To put this into perspective, if we were to apply this percentage to the population of the United States, it would equate to 12 million victims!
I am requesting your support to first secure a place of shelter for me, cover all necessary living expenses, and finalize the enrollment of my children into educational institutions. Simultaneously, I must ensure the continuation of my livelihood, enabling me to fulfill my solemn obligation of recounting the tragic events I witnessed and endured during my 150 days of living through the massacre in Gaza.
I specialize in psychology and have high-level writing skills, with published works spanning novels, short stories, and theater productions. I do not desire any personal privileges from these contributions, having previously self-funded my endeavors. At present, my determination is my most valuable asset. Thus, I appeal to friends to share their insights with interested parties to support this project, intended to serve as a reference for researchers seeking to comprehend the realities of Gaza before and after the war.
From another perspective, I aspire to connect with individuals interested in blogging and secure an Arts Residency in any country offering such opportunities, befitting a confident writer.
Your contribution represents a significant opportunity to amplify the voices of the victims. Although they have passed away, their stories and the enduring pain of the survivors must not fade into obscurity. Proceeds from this initiative will be dedicated to immortalizing the memory of the victims of the genocide in Gaza.

حق الضحية في سرد روايتها عن المذبحة
غادرت غزة تحت القصف والموت، وأنا ممتلئ بالخوف على أهلي وجيراني وأصدقائي المتبقين على قيد الحياة، لهذا لدي طموح بأن أكون صوتًا لهم كما كنت دومًا.
أنا الكاتب محمود جودة من مدينة غزة وعمري 38 عامًا. لقد كلفني خروجي من غزة رفقة زوجتي وأبنائي الاثنين مبلغًا طائلًا يفوق 20 ألف دولارًا أميركيًا، بعد أن دُمّر منزلي بكل ما فيه من محتويات مما فرض علينا النزوح القسري وفاقم من الألم، لا سيما أننا غادرنا بدون أن نتمكن من أخذ أي متعلقات من منزلنا الجميل، فكل شيء دُمّر حتّى الذكريات.
فقدنا نتيجة الحرب أنا وزوجتي عملنا، وقد استنزفتنا مصاريف النزوح ومعاملات التنسيق للسفر، ولا أستطيع تمويل مشروع كتابي التوثيقي الخاص بمأساة حرب العام 2023-2024 والتي راح ضحيتها أكثر من 100 ألف بين قتيل وجريح ومفقود؛ هذا الرقم الهائل يُشكل ما نسبته 4.5 في المئة من سكان قطاع غزة، وبإسقاط هذه النسبة على عدد سكان الولايات المتحدة مثلًا، فسوف ينتج عنه 12 مليون ضحية!
أُطلق هذه الحملة من أجل توفير منحة مالية تساعدني في منفاي على كتابة ما شاهدت وعشت من أهوال الحرب، وكي لا يموت الضحايا من دون أن يعرف العالم كيف ماتوا، ومن قتلهم، وما نتج عن المذبحة من أيتام وأرامل ومبتوري الأطراف.
واستكمال حياتي المعيشية بشكل يساعدني على تأدية واجبي في رواية المأساة بوصفي شخصًا عاش داخلها، وكان جزءًا منها لمئة وخمسين يومًا.
صدر لي ثلاثة كتب من قبل، كلها بجهد وتمويل شخصي، تتحدث عن الضحايا في فلسطين وغزة بالأخص. أول كتاب حمل عنوان "غزة اليتيمة" (2015) وهو شهادات وقصص عن حرب العام 2014، وقد ترجمت بعض قصصه إلى لغات عديدة وتحوّل بعضها إلى أفلام سينمائية. أمّا الكتاب الثاني، فحمل عنوان "رسائل إلى بغداد" (2018)، وقد أهديته إلى ابنتي بغداد، وهو يتناول أبعاد اجتماعية وسياسية وثقافية لمدينة غزة. والكتاب الثالث هو رواية "حديقة السيقان" (2022)، وهو يوثّق معاناة النساء واليافعين الذي فقدوا أطرافهم خلال المسيرات الشعبية (2018-2020)، والذي سوف يصدر باللغة الهولندية قريبًا بترجمة دار نشر يورجن ماس.
إضافةً إلى ذلك، أنا متخصص في علم النفس وأتمتع بمهارات عالية في الكتابة ولي أعمال منشورة في مجالات الرواية والقصة والمسرح، ولا أطمحُ من وراء هذه المساهمات إلى أي امتيازات شخصية، فقد قمت بهذا الفعل سابقًا عندما كنت أستطيع، أمّا الآن فليس لدي إلا إرادتي، لهذا أرجو من الأصدقاء مشاركة رأيهم مع المهتمين من أصدقائهم وزملائهم لدعمي في هذا المشروع الذي أسعى أن يكون مرجًعا للباحثين لفهم واقع غزة قبل الحرب وبعدها.
من زاوية أخرى، أرجو أن أجد من يهتم بأمر التدوين، وأحصل على إقامة للفنون والكتابة في أي بلد توفر لي هذه الفرصة بشكل يليق بالكاتب المعتد بنفسه.
